History

· In 2002, SWJTU upgraded the Department of Architecture to the School of Architecture. As one of the most important innovations of the new school, the Institute of Landscape Research began to build a complete set of LA educational programs.

· In 2002, SWJTU took the lead in recruiting new undergraduates majoring in Architecture (Specialization in Landscape Architecture) in the country. In 2003, the Ministry of Education approved this program name of the landscape as "Landscape Architecture Design."

· In 2003, SWJTU approved the establishment for the academic degree of master's and doctoral programs in Landscape Engineering under the first-level discipline of Civil Engineering.

· In 2005, the academic master's degree program in Landscape Plants and Ornamental Gardening joined the LA Degree Program Series.

· In 2008, SWJTU affiliated the undergraduate program of Forest Resources Conservation and Recreation into the Landscape Architecture Institute, the School of Architecture, with the relevant faculty members.

· In 2010, LA's professional master's degree program(MLA) received state approval for establishment.

· In 2011, The state established the first-level discipline of landscape architecture—the LA  academic master's degree program renamed Landscape Architecture from Landscape Engineering.

· In 2012, SWJTU renamed the LA doctoral program (second-level discipline) AS Engineering Environment and Landscape.

· In 2013, the Institute of Landscape Research changed to the Department of Landscape Architecture.

· In 2015, the MLA program successfully passed the first round of national assessment of this major.

· In 2018, the LA academic master's degree program passed the national evaluation with an "excellent" rating.

· In 2019, the MLA program successfully passed the national assessment again.

· In 2019, the undergraduate program of Landscape Architecture successfully entered the first batch of first-class undergraduate programs in Sichuan Province.

· In 2019, the National Master of Landscape Architecture Education Steering Committee of China approved the establishment of the MLA National Model Joint Training Base at SWJTU.

Introduction

In 2003, the School of Architecture established the Institute of Landscape Research. It eventually changed to the Department of Landscape Architecture in October 2013. At the beginning of the establishment of the Institute of Landscape Research, there were only three teachers. Through nearly two decades of development, the Department of Landscape Architecture has grown up to a department with outstanding teaching and research capacity. The faculty of the Department of Landscape Architecture includes some senior professors and more young and middle-aged teachers, forming a growing echelon. The faculty highlights diverse academic and educational backgrounds, with more than half of the faculty having more than one year of study or research experience abroad. At present, there are about 230 undergraduates and 60 postgraduates in the Department of Landscape Architecture.
