School of Architecture Desigh (SA&D) at Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) has a long history. The architecture programs had been set up in the Departmentvof Civil Engineering in 1929. Since the school of Architecture was formally established in 1946, many old professors such as LIN Bingxian, LlU Futai, XU Zhong and Li wen had taken charge. A lot of outstanding alumni(academician SHE Hunnan and PENG Yigang,etc.)were cultivated here. Since the reform and opening policy,the major of architecture was restored in 1985.The Department of Architecture was founded in 2002 SWJTU adjusted the discipines and founded School of Architecture&Design.

Seven undergraduate majors prove our excellence in teaching and researching: Architecture,Urban and Rural Planning, Landscape Architecture, Product design, Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design, and Fine Arts, among which three architecture-related majors constitute an integral education system of architecture in a broad sense. Meanwhile, the architecture major is qualified as a national specialty and among the firsts to train “outstanding engineer”. It has not only passed the major evaluation of higher education for several times, but also gained excellent scores in 2016 with a validity period of seven years. At that year, the department of urban and rural planning also passed the evaluation valid for six years. Architecture and product design have been approved as state-level undergraduate majors while landscape architecture and environmental design are accredited as provincial level majors with two visual simulation courses approved as national first-class courses in 2020.

SA&D has developed a coordinated mix of disciplines supported by strong academics. In recent years, we continue to promote curriculum construction and improve the talent training system guided by "combination of general education and professional education". We are committed to carrying out extensive inter-school cooperation and school-enterprise cooperation, and inviting well-known experts to participate in teaching. In order to fuel the internationalization of talent training, we  carry out short-term experimental teaching activities and joint training with excellent foreign universities, and build a high-level and interdisciplinary international talent exchange platform. By building a multi-agent, multi-platform, multi-channel  collaborative education mechanism, and constantly promoting teaching reform, SA&D has ensured the widely recognized quality of talent cultivating.
