On December 24, 2019, the mid-term supervision meeting of architecture undergraduate and master education evaluation of Southwest Jiaotong University was held in the D100 report hall of architecture and design building. The experts appointed by the National Architectural Education Evaluation Committee of colleges and universities conducted the second supervision on the architecture major (undergraduate and master program) of SWJTU. The undergraduate and master programs of architecture in SWJTU passed the evaluation with "excellent" results in 2014 (valid for seven years). They got the first supervision of this evaluation cycle in 2016.
The meeting was presided over by Cui Xu, associate dean of the School of Architecture and Design. Professor Qian Fang, chief architect of China Southwest design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., and Professor Lu Feng, associate dean of College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Chongqing University and member of the Education Guidance Subcommittee of Architecture Major of Ministry of Education, attended the meeting as the inspection experts. Kang Rui, deputy director of the SWJTU Academic Affairs Office, Ai Changfa, associate dean of the SWJTU Graduate School, and the leadership of the School of Architecture and Design,Shen Zhongwei, executive dean, Wu Xiaoxiong, secretary of the Party Committee, Yang qingjuan, associate dean, Liu Yijie, deputy secretary of the Party Committee, Liu Chunyao, assistant to the dean attended the meeting. Zhang yingzi, chair of the Department of architecture, and Zhu Ying, Fu Fei, Xiong Ying, and Xuan Huang, deputy chairs of the Department, also attended the meeting, together with the assistant heads of the Department of architecture and the leaders of various grade groups.
In his speech, secretary Wu Xiaoxiong warmly welcomed the experts to come to the School of architecture and design to carry out supervision work. Wu expressed his gratitude to them for monitoring and guiding the work of the School.
Associate dean Yang qingjuan made a report on SWJTU Architectural Education self-evaluation to the inspection experts and answered the questions raised by them after her presentation.
The inspection experts fully affirmed the development of SWJTU School of architecture and design in recent years. They believed that the School had greatly improved the teaching conditions. SWJTU and the School of Architect and Design focused on building a multi-level education quality monitoring system and achieved remarkable results. The architecture major has significantly improved in the structure of teaching staff, personnel training, scientific research, and academic exchanges, by the facts like the establishment of the first-level discipline doctoral program of architecture, the first prize of provincial scientific progress award, and the excellent plan of Mao Yisheng Hornor School for architecture. After that, the supervision experts discussed with the faculty representatives and had a full and detailed exchange in teaching and scientific research.
The inspection experts visited the environmental conditions and facilities for teaching, experiment, and administrative support. They had a discussion with the student representatives and exchanged their wishes or ideas on curriculum, ability development, future employment, and personal career development.
After a careful discussion, the supervision experts put forward suggestions on the undergraduate program in the supervision feedback meeting: strengthen the integration and systematic construction of professional courses, further improve the quality control mechanism of graduation design; According to the characteristics of architecture major, we should also strengthen the structure of teaching staff, expand the open school running ways, and continuously improve the students' further study rate and the international level of professional construction. Their suggestions for graduate education are further refining the research team, combining with the discipline development direction, setting systematic planning, and forming a specific research direction. The above suggestions constitute the supervision opinions of this inspection.
In the final summary, executive Dean Shen Zhongwei first expressed his thanks to the supervision experts for their hard work in a whole day. He believes that the experts' Evaluation of the development of the architecture program at SWJTUin recent years is pertinent, and they have a precise understanding of the future development. Shen said that the school of Architecture and Design would seriously accept the supervision experts' opinions and suggestions, clarify the objectives, make the benchmarking advanced, and pay close attention to the implementation and steady development.
